How to choose Elbow Pipe Fittings

Pipe elbows are what we call pipe fittings that change direction. Pipe elbows are available in 45 Degree Bend Pipe, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, etc. The materials are divided into carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy, etc. According to different sizes, they are divided into 1/2 barb elbow, 1/4 barb elbow, etc. So how to choose pipe elbows?

How to choose Elbow Pipe Fittings

1. Size

First, you need to clarify the diameter of the pipeline system. The size of the elbow usually matches the inner or outer diameter of the pipe.

Flow demand is the key factor in determining the size of the elbow. When the flow increases, the required elbow size will also increase accordingly. Therefore, when choosing an elbow, make sure it can meet the flow requirements required by the system.

The size of 1/2 barb elbow is one quarter, which is 15mm in nominal diameter. It is commonly used in interior decoration scenes such as homes and offices.

The so-called 4-point pipe refers to the pipe with a diameter (inner diameter) of 4 points.

One point is 1/8 of an inch, two points is 114 of an inch, and four points is 1/2 of an inch.

1 inch = 25.4 mm = 8 points 1/2 barb elbow = 4 points = diameter 15 mm

3/4 barb elbow = 6 points = diameter 20 mm

2. Material of Elbow Pipe Fittings

Pipe elbows should be made of the same material as the pipes. Chemical plants are basically stainless steel pipes, which have strong corrosion resistance.

Stainless steel elbows are divided into 304, 316 and other materials. In our daily life, many underground pipes are made of carbon steel, so elbows are made of carbon steel.

Thermal insulation pipes require insulation elbows, of course, they are also made of carbon steel, so it is easy to choose pipe elbows according to the material.

3. Angle

Pipe elbows are available in 45 degrees, 90 degrees, etc., that is, if the pipe needs to change its direction by 90 degrees, a 90-degree elbow is used.

Sometimes, when the pipe reaches the end, it needs to flow in the opposite direction, and then a 180-degree elbow can be used. According to the construction environment and space, elbows with special calibers, pressures, and angles can be customized.

For example, if you want to change the direction but 90 degrees is too large and 70 degrees is too small, you can customize elbows with any angle between 70 and 90 degrees.

Considerations

In addition to the above conventional factors, there are some other things that need to be taken into consideration:

1. Medium properties: Understand the medium transported by the pipeline system. Corrosiveness, temperature, pressure and other characteristics require different elbows.

2. Working environment: Consider the working environment of the elbow. Indoor or outdoor, temperature range, humidity are different, and the materials that adapt to these conditions are also different.

3. Installation and maintenance requirements: Elbows of different materials may have different requirements in terms of installation and maintenance. Materials that are easy to install, maintain and replace can reduce later costs.
